Oak Door

Oak Door

Oak doors have various advantages over ordinary pine doors. One of the primary differences between the oak and pine doors is durability. Oak is classified as a hardwood, doors made from it have a superior strength and long lasting durability. Moreover, as oak is hard, it stops the moisture from creeping in and provides protection against humidity. Pine on the other hand is classified as softwood, although it is stiff and strong, it is no match when compared with the strength of oak. Pine doors tend to wear out during excessive use but oak doors last longer and endure through more wear and tear.

The major disadvantage of purchasing such a high quality door is that the price is almost double that of a typical door. When you examine this disadvantage through the lifetime of the door, you will come to learn that it could also be an advantage. A door manufactured from oak will last quite a bit longer than a lower quality door. In fact, if you consider the amount of time the oak door will last, the price is often lower than other doors.

Oak doors are of many types depending on the type of oak used in its making and there are almost about 295 different types of oaks in the world. In USA alone, one third of all the hardwood produced is oak. It can be used alone to beautify the house or glass panes can also be installed in it to add to its beauty. It gives a fresh look to the house due to its unique color and is always preferred over other types of doors.

Another drawback of having a door made of wood is the maintenance. You should run through a small checklist once a year on your exterior door. The first thing you will want to do is clean the door. Remove any large chunks of dirt or debris and then if your door is painted or sealed you can wash it with water. Next you will want to inspect the door for chips or paint bubble. If there are any paint bubbles pop them. Next sand any bubbles or chips and reapply the paint.

You should also watch out for warping. All wood can warp so it is possible that your door might warp. But most high quality wood doors won’t warp.
